Our History

Our History

Established in 1846 as the Vanderbilt Funeral Home at 69 Main St. in Tarrytown Dwyer & Michael’s history stretches back over 175 years. John Vanderbilt began a tradition of caring as the local furniture maker and undertaker and the tradition continued over 5 generations through the Vanderbilt family. Upon the passing of the late Edmund Vanderbilt the business was turned over to Mr. Gerald Ettlemyer in 1963  who operated the business with prestige until the late 1980’s. Dwyer Funeral Home established by The Dwyer family in the 1930’s on Broadway in Tarrytown and then passed on to Mr. John Kelly in 1960 has been a landmark of community care in the Tarrytowns and surrounding Rivertown communities. John otherwise known as Jack in the community believed in the concept of community involvement and made himself available to serve with reverence and dignity on a 24 hour 7 day a week basis.

Our History

Jack having been friends with Gerald Ettlemyer acquired the Vanderbilt Funeral Home business and phone number in the mid 1980’s and began operating the Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home out of the current location 90 North Broadway in Tarrytown. Upon Jacks sudden passing in the 1990’s the Kelly family retained ownership of the business & property and the tradition of care continued in the community. In October of 2018 The funeral home was proudly sold to the Carpinone family by the Kelly family. The Carpinone family brings over 100 years of experience to the community and every day they strive to serve with the same reverence and dignity as Jack Kelly, Gerald Ettlemyer, The Dwyer family and The Vanderbilt family as Dwyer & Michael’s Funeral Home
