Plato P Smith Jr

Plato Pollard Smith Jr., devoted servant of Jehovah, faithfully closed his eyes in death on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025. He was born to Lula Bell Pollard-Smith and Plato Smith Sr. on January 20th, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. Plato was their eldest child. A year later, Plato’s younger brother, Arthur C. Smith was born. He attended Wingate High School where he excelled in academics and sports. Plato earned an Associate’s Degree from Brooklyn College and also attended Empire State University. In 1968, he began his career as a system’s analyst for IBM. He finished his career as an analyst for the Metropolitan Transit Authority. Plato shared his mother’s love of learning and strong work ethic. Plato was a member of the Franklin, Bedford, Kings Highway, Clinton, Pacific, Atlantic and Vanderbilt congregations. His life was anchored by his love and devotion to his heavenly father. Plato married A. Ann Smith on September 27th, 1969. Their loving union subsequently produced four children, Zeresh Pia Smith, Shoshannah Kim Smith, Plato Pollard Smith III (affectionately known as Tres) and Kenan Abijah Smith. Plato had the unique ability to make all of his children feel as though they were his favorite. He shared his love for Jehovah, family, sports, music, nature and history. Plato graced us with his compassion, sense of humor, kindness and nurturing guidance. Plato faced many medical complications for a sustained period of time, however his faith never wavered. Our beloved Plato leaves to mourn the mother of his children: A. Ann Smith, his children: Zeresh, Shoshannah, Tres and Kenan, his grandchildren: Pia Smith, Ayana Hollins, Javin Hollins, and Kaleis Smith, his great grandchildren: Kaleena Westbrook, Josiah Westbrook and Royal Hollins, nieces and nephews: Troy Smith, Solima Smith, and Jamol Smith, and a host of loved ones and friends by whom he is dearly missed. Although the enormity of the loss of Plato is extraordinary to bear, we are comforted by the fact that he is no longer in pain and that there is the promised resurrection.
