Clara Lippert Pebworth

Clare (Lippert) Pebworth, the daughter of Ludwig and Amelia (Neal) Lippert passed away on July 30, 2022. She was born and raised in Brackenridge, Allegheny Co., Pa. She was the widow of Richard Russell “Tiny” Pebworth, Jr. and is survived by two sons: Russell W. Pebworth of Clearwater; Eugene E. Pebworth of Land O’Lakes, FI and two grandsons Alexander and Benjamin Pebworth of Land O’Lakes, FI. In 1951 she won the Miss Pennsylvania Competition and went to Atlantic City for the Miss America competition. 1951, she also won the Miss Pittsburgh Press Photographers Association Competition and became Miss Pennsylvania Press Photographers Association. In Nov. 1951, Clare cut the ribbon, opening the official connection of the Pa. turnpike to the Ohio turnpike. In 1952 Clare attended the University of Pittsburgh on her scholarship for being Miss Pennsylvania. After one semester, she left college to become Tommy Tucker’s featured vocalist. She then left Pennsylvania and moved to New York City and over the years became the featured vocalist, with the orchestras of Tommy Tucker, Les Elgert, Sammy Kaye, and Russ Morgan. When she first recorded with Tommy Tucker, her name was changed to Clare Nelson. Beginning in 1957, she recorded for Columbia Records on the Epic Label. Her 1" record "At Our House" sold over 750,000 copies. At the time, her record was listed in Billboard and Cash Box as in the top 10. She appeared on many television shows. In 1959, she represented the US on the Christmas Show that Daj Hamerskold, Secretary General of the United Nations took to the Gaza Strip in Africa to entertain the United Nations Emergency Forces. She did a show on the wing of an airplane and rode a camel into the desert to do a show in a tent. After returning from the Gaza Strip, in 1959, she went to California and was Lawrence Welk’s Champaign Lady. During the 1950’s, Clare was a John Robert Powers model and a Harry Conover Model appearing in many magazines and fashion shows. She became the spokeswoman for many companies and traveled this country speaking for American Motors, General Electric, and American Safety Equipment. In 1963, she married the late Richard R. "Tiny” Pebworth, a producer of Industrial shows, auto shows and meetings in the US and Canada. She retired from entertaining. After her husband’s death she ran his companies for two years producing the announcement shows and meeting for Buick Motor Division of General Motors. In 1993, she moved to Clearwater. Her hobby is Genealogy, and she has written and published five genealogy books. Clare’s hometown has decided to dedicate an area in the Tarentum, Pa. Library and the Natrona Heights, Pa. Library to her lifetime accomplishments. Clare will be buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Tarrytown, NY with her husband.
