Robert Hamilton Barstow I October 6, 1955 - December 24, 2022 Robert Hamilton Barstow (Ty), 67, of Sleepy Hollow, passed away Saturday. Born in Sleepy Hollow, NY on October 6, 1955, he was the son of the late Lorraine Hamilton Barstow and William Merrill Barstow. He was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School, and then received a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University. He received his degree in Architecture from the Pratt Institute in New York. Ty was a prominent local real estate owner and architect. He was an artist, like his mother, who was an art professor at Marymount. He loved spending time creating pottery and dabbling in the kitchen with creative recipes. He was a musician and could be found outside his apartments on Cedar Street with his beloved golden retriever (Charlie), playing the guitar, surrounded by his tenants who became his friends. One of his significant accomplishments was overseeing the construction and creating the architectural design of the family summer home in Nantucket. It truly was a labor of love. The home became a source of family bonding time over the years and was filled with much laughter, joy, love and the ongoing competition of which family made the best dinner on their designated night. His family is devastated by Ty’s passing but find comfort and peace knowing that he is united with his great love, his son, Robert Hamilton Barstow II. Their connection was unmatched and truly a gift that only a father and son can share. Ty is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Kathleen Barstow, Sleepy Hollow, and daughter Brittany Barstow, San Diego, CA. He is also survived by his siblings: Bill Barstow and wife Pat; Lorraine Love and husband Francis; Paige Dilt and husband George; his mother-in-law Margaret Dougherty, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bernadette Adcroft and husband Robert; Patricia LaTorre and husband, Joseph; Christine Jones and husband, Kevin; Ann Dougherty; Joseph Dougherty and wife, Kim; sister-in-law Collen Dougherty; Edward Dougherty and wife, Dawn; Peggy Piccotti and husband, Eric; Ellen Dougherty; and Therese Walker and husband, Kevin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ty was also preceded in death by his son Robert Hamilton Barstow II; his father-in-law Joseph M. Dougherty, sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Dougherty; brother-in-law, John M. Dougherty and several aunts and uncles. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, 3 January at 12 noon at The Church of the Magdalene, 525 Bedford Rd, Sleepy Hollow, NY.
