Helen Dunican Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Helen (Morrow) Dunican, died peacefully the morning of May 12, 2022, at her home in Newtown, PA., surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren. A proud New Yorker, Helen was born in White Plains, grew up in Thornwood and raised her family in Crestwood and Sleepy Hollow. She was the sixth of George Randolph and Margaret (Holland) Morrow’s eight children, and she graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1953. She married Peter Brendan Dunican, Sr., in September 1963, and they had seven children. In addition to her seven children, Helen had 38 nieces and nephews, whom she adored and remembered every birthday. Before marrying Pete, Helen lived and worked in New York City, and she particularly loved to share memories from her work at the New York Foundling. After her children were all of school age, Helen began a long career at the Pocantico Hills School, where she spent many happy years catering to the children of the school. A woman of remarkable faith, Helen, her husband and their children were extremely active in the Church of the Magdalene community for more than 40 years. She taught CCD, served on the Parish Council, organized charity drives and was a constant presence in the parish. She was particularly proud of the work she and Pete organized for Thorpe House in the Bronx, which continued until she moved to Pennsylvania with her daughter Regina’s family in 2014. Her additional volunteer and charity efforts were innumerable, as she put her family and community before all else. Helen had a grace and charity that struck everyone she met, and maintained lifelong friendships with people from every phase of her life. Helen is survived by her sisters Carole Hogan and Mabel Spino, her son Brendan (Sarah) and her daughters Kate (Fred) Habib, Maureen (Michael) Allen, Bridget (Manny III) Boccini, Eileen (Brad) Moening, and Regina (George) Moriarty. She also leaves 17 grandchildren -- Will (Breanna), Evan, Jude, Grace, Sean, Lizzie, Manny IV, Therese, Erin, Maeve, Molly, Peter, Aidan, Holland, Brendan, Megan and Cara -- who each held a special place in Grammy’s heart. She also leaves her sisters-in-law Maureen Touhey, Peggy Morrow, Ronnie Morrow, Victoria Morrow, Patricia Dunican, and Fran Tobias. Her devoted nieces, nephews and cousins will all miss her, as well. She was predeceased by her husband Pete, her daughter Meg, her siblings -- Margo, Jean, George, Bobby and John -- and her nieces Randy Morrow and Nancy Meyer. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Helen at 10:00 am on May 16, 2022, at The Church of the Magdalene, 525 Bedford Rd., Sleepy Hollow, NY. Calling hours will be on May 15, 2022, held from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Dwyer & Michael’s Funeral Home, 90 N. Broadway, Tarrytown.
