George "Papou" Hantzarides

George Hantzarides, age 87 from Tarrytown, New York, passed away on July 4, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was born on September 14, 1929 in Exohi, Greece to Matthew and Simela Hantzarides. George immigrated to the United States with his family in 1972 in pursuit of the American Dream. A long life resident of Tarrytown since his arrival in the USA, George frequently walked Broadway with his signature Yankee cap, often referred to as Papou. He helped many local businesses and handed out flowers from his garden to local residents. George Is survived by his wife, Kyriaki and his three daughters Sophia (Gus) Efthalitsides, Freda (Albert) Bateman and Eleni (Jeff) McClung. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 5 great grand children. He is predeceased by his daughter, Simela Kyriakides and his two brothers, Andy and Antonio Hantzarides, also of Tarrytown. Reposing at the Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral Service at Prophet Elias Church on Saturday at 9:30 AM. Interment to follow Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
