January 11, 1941 - August 6, 2021
Mama loved. Mama is loved. Mama is with Jesus. Mama is. Aida Luz Rios Natal was born on January 11, 1941 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to Fransisco Natal and Maria Elena Natal Rivera. The oldest of ten, she was a loving caregiver to her siblings, and later a wise friend who always maintained an interest in their lives. Regular visits, phone calls, holidays, birthday parties, anniversaries, and funerals – her presence showed she cared. She loved and honored her parents. A treasured daughter, cherished sister, and kind aunt. She is dearly missed. Aida married Luis Gabriel Rios on January 11, 1964 and supported him throughout more than 50 years of pastoral ministry. She never left his side, daily serving delicious full course meals. Last week he ate alone for the first time in nearly 60 years, a testament to her faithful presence. She loved and honored her husband. She is dearly missed. She had her eldest, Luis Rios Jr., on October 29, 1964; her only daughter, Yvonne Rios Feliciano, on October 6, 1967, and her youngest, Kenneth Rios on September 8, 1968. She adopted her children’s spouses and loved them as her own. Annette Rios and Raymond Feliciano. She poured her life out for her children, caring, nurturing, and serving them faithfully. Their joy was hers. Their hurt was hers. Mami was an enduring model of Christ’s sacrificial love. She loved and honored her children. She is dearly missed. Her children’s kids were hers. She is a grandmother to Crystal Pena, Nathaniel Feliciano, Stephen Feliciano, Deborah O’Reilly, Alyssa Rios, Josiah Rios, and Jeremy Rios. She also adopted her grandchildren’s spouses and loved them as her own. Theolinda Feliciano, Reyna Feliciano, Steven Pena and Nyim O’Reilly. Known to her grandchildren as “QT,” an affectionate nod to her pronunciation of “cutie,” she served them tirelessly – from hot lunches in elementary school, meatloaf and mashed potatoes by special request following a late-night church service, and arroz con gandules after a first semester at college – she displayed an abiding interest in every season of their lives. She loved and honored her grandchildren. She is dearly missed. Her grandchildren’s kids were hers, even if for a shorter time. Some seen; others unseen. The affection nonetheless was genuine. A great grandmother to Caleb Feliciano, Joshua Pena, Levi Feliciano, Karis Feliciano, baby O’Reilly and baby Pena. Crawling over her shoulders and repeating new words. Their smiles were hers. She loved and honored her great grandchildren. She is dearly missed. Aida Luz Rios went home to be with Jesus at 5am on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Phelps Memorial Hospital, in Sleepy Hollow, NY. She joins her parents, great grandson, brother-in-law, and many other loved ones. She is the much beloved and highly celebrated daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend of all present. Jesus will soon raise and re-unite her with her grieving yet hopeful family, because Jesus is alive and has overcome death. We love and honor her. She is dearly missed.
