Novella Young

Novella Patricia Young was called home at the age of 91 on August 16, 2023. Novella was born on July 14,1932 in Bartow, Georgia to the late Nelson Robinson and Idease Shoultz Robinson. Novella received her education at Woodville High School in Savannah, Georgia. She accepted Christ at a young age and upon arriving in White Plains, New York, became a member of Mount Hope Church. Prior to settling in New York, Novella was raised in Savannah, Georgia, and from there she met and married the late Willie B. Young. They were married for 25 years. Novella was an excellent southern cook. Her love for cooking led her to work for the Marriott Corporation for 25 years in the food service department. She would later retire from the Marriott to work at the Salvation Army. After several years she decided to retire to assist with caring for her grandchildren. Novella loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved to cook for them. She would cook each of their favorite dishes and made sure that they prayed before every meal. When she wasn’t cooking for her family, she would be attending a school event for her grands or watching them dance or play sports. She was a very active grandmother who was always dressed and ready to support her family. She loved to shop. She had terrific taste and would buy the most beautiful pieces of clothing. She prided herself on looking great every time she left the house. Novella was a part of the family Mother’s Day group that went out every year to celebrate for the last 28 years. Everyone would always be excited to see what she was wearing, and never disappointed. She really enjoyed talking on the phone and dining with her best friend, the late Shirley Davis, with whom she shared decades of friendship. Novella loved her family and was especially close to son and her daughter-in-law who in her heart was really her daughter. She was a girly girl and loved anything that had to do with getting dolled up. She was an old school grandma and ONE CLASSY LADY. Novella leaves to cherish her memories, her son Kevin V. Young(Tonia), her four grandchildren, Kevin Lavaughn, Elijah Rashaad, India Kai and Amir Shahid, Cousins Tracey Jackson(Arnold), Lauren Jackson, Briana Jackson, Barry Shoultz(Barbara) and Larry Shoultz all residing in Savannah Georgia, One God-daughter, Laurie Ford(Vernell) honorary family members in her heart, Felicia Ortiz Gayle, Karen Davis and Ernestine Gamble and the Gamble family.
