Lauretta Ann Brown

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Lauretta Brown announce her passing on September 6, 2021 at the age of 52, after a year long courageous battle with cancer. Lauretta was born in Alexandria, Virginia on April 4,1969, daughter of Janet (Caruso) and the late Salvatore LoCasto. In addition to her mother, Lauretta is survived by her husband, Joseph Brown; son and daughter, Griffin and Fiona; sister, Linda (Andrew) Nappi; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Lauretta lived most of her childhood in Ardsley, NY and graduated from Ardsley High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Fordham University and went on to pursue several master's degrees. She lived in NYC for a couple of years before moving to Briarcliff Manor, NY where she started a family and lived for over 20 years. Lauretta and Jay were married 23 years. Lauretta was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister who always put her family first. Lauretta enjoyed attending Griffin and Fiona's sporting events. She was their biggest fan in every way. She loved hosting holidays in her home and believed the more the merrier. As a child, Lauretta was very close with her cousins and enjoyed spending time with her large extended family. After she married, Lauretta relished the opportunity to expand her family and embraced her newest family members. Lauretta spent most of her 28 year teaching career at Felix Festa Middle School, in the Clarkstown Central School district. She inspired middle school students and cultivated a love for mathematics. Her unwavering belief in her students earned her their respect and admiration. Lauretta ran the NYC marathon multiple times and participated in triathlons all over the tri-state area. Her commitment to her training was a testament to her outstanding character. Lauretta adored her dog, Spencer. They developed a special bond in their shared love of walks in Rockefeller Estate. Lauretta was a special friend to many, always there to lend a helping hand. Her friendships ranged from the ones she made as she settled into the Chappaqua community, to her colleagues at Felix Festa Middle School, to the childhood friends she had for over 40 years. In lieu of flowers, Lauretta shared with her loved ones that her wishes were for people to do an act of kindness in her honor. We will be gathering at the Kathryn W Davis Riverwalk Center at Kingsland Pointe Park in Sleepy Hollow on Saturday, October 23 from 1:00-3:30 for a Memorial Service. (Eulogies will be delivered at approximately 2:00) A light lunch and beverages will be served for the duration of the event. Casual attire at this mostly outdoor celebration is appropriate. (In the event of an unfavorable weather forecast for Saturday, please check back on the Thursday prior for an update. The timing of the event may be adjusted or possibly moved to Friday afternoon.)
